Music Video Deconstruction: Starlight

Artist: Muse

Song: Starlight

Date of Release:4 September 2006

Director: Paul Minor
"Starlight" is a song by English alternative rock band Muse and is the second track on their 2006 album Black Holes and Revelations, serving as title track because of the line "Black holes and revelations" in the song. It was released on 4 September 2006 in the United Kingdom as the second single from Black Holes and Revelations.[2] The song peaked at #13 on the UK Singles Chart.[3] It was also the second single released in the United States, reaching number two on the Modern Rock Tracks chart.[4] The song was first played live during the Radio 1's Big Weekend festival in summer 2006.[5]

The music video is filmed on a bulk carrier ship, the band are carrying flares in an attempt to get rescued but this fails and is linked to the songs lyrics about boats and abandonment.

There is a wide range of shot variation cross cutting from on the boat to some low angle shots looking down onto the boat. As darkness falls in the video it becomes more interesting with use of flairs and special effects give the sense of power the band has by firing all these flairs and the atmosphere they can create.
